One leg of 240 nautical miles today, between Gariep Dam and Plettenberg Bay (FAPG), on the southern coastline of South Africa.

We woke up with a clear blue sky and the view from the hotel over the lake and the dam was stunning:

This flight was one of the most difficult flights of all the trip. Bumpy, turbulent, high ridges of mountains to cross, severe downdrafts, etc..

It has been a constant fight, a constant struggle for Cedric and me. Silence in the cockpit most of the time, concentration at its maximum. The performance of the plane was not great at 7000 feet…

The scenery was beautiful though:

And after a 3:30 hour flight, the coastline of the “Garden Route” appeared to us:

There was windshear on short final at Plettenberg Bay. Not an easy landing. Kiwi landed perfectly but the Tiger Moth of the South-African crew damaged a tire when landing.

Our Stampe also suffered some technical problems. One of the exhaust gaskets blew. Kiwi had to spend the whole afternoon on the tarmac to repair/replace it, so we can hopefully make it to Cape Town tomorrow…
